Monica Visits East Kilbride Men’s Shed, The Initiative Striving to Improve Men’s Mental Health

Monica was welcomed into the East Kilbride Men’s Shed by Paul, Tommy and other members to learn more about the impactful work they do to improve men’s mental health and wellbeing, prevent isolation and build community connections.

Monica commented:

“I am grateful to Paul, Tommy and all members of the East Kilbride Men’s Shed for a wonderful afternoon and for giving me an insight into the current exciting projects happening at the shed.

“The Shed offers members the chance to learn a new skill whether that be wood crafting or drawing, but also a haven for those who want some time out of the house, to come and have a blether.

“The Men’s Shed is a lifeline for many in the community. Isolation kills and we need to do more as a community to look out for one another and ensure that nobody is forced to experience the brutality of loneliness. East Kilbride Men’s Shed is pioneering this.”

Paul Munday, Secretary of East Kilbride Men’s Shed commented:

“A big welcome from East Kilbride Men's Shed was extended to Monica Lennon and Joani Reid as they visited the Shed on Monday 11th September. Having recently increased its profile in the town by its relocation to the easily accessible St Leonard's Square last year, it now has over 60 members with more joining every week. The social and workshop activities are ideal to get people out of the house helping improve their physical and mental health.

“But it's not just the workshop or solving the world's problems over a cup of tea, we also have technology and art. For example, several new members are exercising their professional talents drawing caricatures of the latest victims Monica and Joani.

“Whatever you wish to do, EK Men's Shed welcomes all visitors - you don't need an invitation - just drop in to see what we do. Alternatively, contact Secretary Paul on 07434 687092.
