Monica Responds To A 23% Rise In Drug-Related Hospital Admissions Across Lanarkshire Hospitals

Monica has spoken out about the latest Public Health Scotland report showing drug-related harms remain a challenge across NHS Lanarkshire.

The report, which monitors drug-related hospital admissions shows that between July-October 2023, 262 patients were admitted to a Lanarkshire hospital for drug-related harms. This is a significant increase of 23% compared to the same period in 2022.

Across the whole of Scotland, the average weekly number of Scottish Ambulance Service naloxone administration incidents was 14% higher than in 2022 & there were 267 suspected drug deaths.

Monica commented,

“It is devastating to see Scotland’s drug crisis ruin the lives of so many people in Lanarkshire. The people who are dying are our loved ones and neighbours and it doesn’t need to be this way.

“The SNP have been making this emergency worse, admitting that ministers dropped the ball and cut funding to lifeline services.

“The Scottish Government must take responsibility and commit to improving rehabilitation and treatment services here in Lanarkshire and across Scotland.”
