Monica Reacts to Thousands Waiting Over Eight Hours in A&E

Latest Public Health Scotland statistics show that 14,419 A&E attendees waited over 8 hours in March 2023, ten times higher than the figure from March 2021.

The situation only worsens when it comes to NHS Lanarkshire, where only 57.2% of those who attended A&E were seen within the recommended time of 4 hours, compared to the higher national statistic of 68%.

New figures on delayed discharge beds were also released today for the month ending 31 March 2023, revealing 1,688 people delayed across Scotland

Monica commented:

“Health care workers have been left abandoned and unsupported, working tirelessly under the dangerous conditions of our broken health service.

“Just over half of attendees in Lanarkshire being seen within the advised time last week is simply horrifying. Thanks to the hard work of NHS and Council staff, through their ‘Operation Flow’ project, significant improvements have been made across all hospitals, but it is the responsibility of the Scottish Government to maintain this.

“It is high time that our NHS staff were provided with the working conditions that they deserve, but this can only be achieved when we tackle the issue of delayed discharge and make improvements to primary care.
