Monica Acknowledges ‘Courageous’ Work of East Kilbride Campaigner for Work on Opening Baby Loss Units

Monica Lennon has lodged a motion to the Scottish Parliament, acknowledging the official opening of the baby loss and bereavement unit at University Hospital Wishaw and congratulating Louise Caldwell, the local campaigner behind the project.

The baby loss and bereavement unit, which opened on 24 August provides a space for those who have experienced a miscarriage to ensure they do not have to experience the loss of a baby within the main labour wards.

Monica commented:

“My constituent Louise has spearheaded this vital campaign on behalf of women and families since 2020 and I am so proud to know her. The opening of the units was a bittersweet and emotional

day for many, but everyone involved, including the maternity team at Wishaw Hospital should be commended.

“This unit will make a world of difference to those who sadly experience miscarriage and pregnancy complications and I hope to see other hospitals follow in Wishaw’s footsteps and set up similar rooms to ensure women and families are given the most compassionate care possible.”
