Monica Lennon Delivers Talk In World Famous Cambridge Debating Chamber

This weekend, Monica Lennon spoke to Cambridge University students about her experience of introducing world-leading legislation (Period Products Free Provision Act 2021).

The Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Act 2021, spearheaded by Monica Lennon which came into force last year made it mandatory for all public institutions to provide period products free of charge to those who need them.

Cambridge University Union invited the MSP to speak on a period poverty panel about the history of the legislation and how we can eradicate period poverty on a global scale.

Monica Lennon commented:

“It was a pleasure to speak with Cambridge Union members about my work in bringing the Period Products Act into force in Scotland.

“The panel was a great chance to shine a light on the world-leading work that Scotland has undertaken in moving closer to achieving gender equality. I am always incredibly proud of the progress that period dignity campaigners have made and it was great to share this with Cambridge Union.

“It was brilliant to be involved in wider discussions about the work that is being done across the UK to ensure that everyone has access to period products. Just a few days ahead of International Women’s Day, it was heart-warming to be sat on a panel with so many inspiring women who are committed to eradicating period poverty.

“I am hugely thankful to the student representatives at Cambridge Union for kindly inviting me to share my insights and take part in discussions- it is a memory I will cherish.”
